Terms

These terms

These terms apply to this website, the contribution pages hosted on it (including pages on an organization's own domain), your contributor account, and every contribution you make through them. By using the site or making a contribution you agree to them, to our privacy policy and to our contribution rules. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

"Watershed Giving", "we" and "us" mean Watershed Giving, a federal political committee registered with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). An "organization" is an advocacy group or PAC that hosts a contribution page here.

What we do

When you pay on a contribution page, your payment is a contribution to Watershed Giving, earmarked for the candidate committees and other committees you select on that page. Watershed Giving acts as a conduit: it forwards each earmarked contribution to the committee you chose and reports it to the FEC, as federal law requires. We do not choose which committees appear on a page; the organization that hosts the page does.

The organization that hosts a page is responsible for what the page says about itself and the committees it supports. A page's "Paid for by" notice names who paid for it.

Your eligibility and what you affirm

Before each contribution you affirm the statements listed in our contribution rules, including that the money is your own, that you are a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident and that you are not a federal government contractor. Making a contribution you are not eligible to make, or in someone else's name, can be a violation of federal law. You agree that the name, address, employer and occupation you give are true and your own.

Limits, refusals and refunds

  • We apply federal contribution limits to what you give through this site and may decline any payment that would exceed them. We cannot see contributions you made elsewhere, so staying within your limits across other platforms is your responsibility.
  • We may refuse, refund or hold a contribution that we believe is prohibited, excessive, fraudulent or made in error, and a committee may decline a contribution forwarded to it. When we refund, we refund to the card you paid with.
  • Contributions are otherwise final. If you made a mistake, contact us as soon as you can: a contribution we have not yet forwarded can usually be refunded; one already forwarded can only be refunded by the committee that received it.
  • Contributions are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.

Payments

Card payments are processed by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card number. By paying you authorize the charge shown before you confirm. Please do not dispute a charge with your bank before contacting us: a disputed contribution may have to be refunded or reported again.

Your account

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address or verified mobile number, or with a passkey. Keep access to them secure; you are responsible for activity in your account. Your account shows contribution records the FEC publishes that we matched to you by name and address. Those matches are informational, may include someone else's contributions and may be incomplete; do not rely on them as a record of your limits. You can remove a match that is not yours.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the site to make a contribution in another person's name or with another person's funds or card;
  • copy, collect or use information about contributors from this site, including information that originates in FEC reports, for soliciting contributions or for any commercial purpose, which federal law prohibits;
  • interfere with the site, test it for vulnerabilities without our written permission, or access it through automated means other than ordinary search-engine indexing;
  • misrepresent who you are or your affiliation with an organization or committee.

Messages

We send sign-in codes, verification codes and receipts by email or text message because you asked for them or made a contribution. Message and data rates may apply to texts. We do not send marketing messages.

Disclaimers and liability

The site is provided "as is". We work to keep it available and accurate but do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not responsible for organizations' pages or for information that comes from the FEC or other public sources. To the fullest extent the law allows, Watershed Giving is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount of the payment the claim concerns. Nothing in these terms limits a right you have under law that cannot be limited by agreement.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. The terms in effect when you make a contribution apply to that contribution.
